Diagnosis, support, and identification of solutions for new business models in Gyaros
Environmental description
Gyaros is a Cyclades unhabited remote island in process of establishing an MPA. The only building is an ancient prison. The island is one of the last breeding sites of the Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus monachus), counting the Cyclades population with 60 individuals only. Gyaros is a nesting site for several endangered bird species, such as: Bonelli eagle (Aquila fasciata), Mediterranean shearwater (Puffinus yelkouan), Eleanora’s falcon (Falco eleanorae)
blueseeds mission
BlueSeeds offers technical assistance to Gyaros stakeholders. The support was first focused on developing a business model to implement an innovative financing and managing system of the futur MPA. The work is currently focused on the development of economic activities in Gyaros.
