About the MSc MARRES university programme

The Université Côte d’Azur offers a multidisciplinary master’s program:the MSc MARRES “Ocean Science, Conservation & Innovation” in response to the global expansion of the blue economy. Using an interdisciplinary approach, the program emphasizes practical professional experiences that help students build a blue career.

More than 60 students from ten different countries participate in the programme each academic year. They come from a variety of backgrounds, including biology, environmental sciences, chemistry, oceanography, engineering, economics, and communication.

BlueSeeds provides students with theoretical classes, role-playing, and useful resources to assist them in comprehending and addressing the difficulties of marine conservation.

Our achievements

About our training on conservation effectiveness

Over the course of a week, BlueSeeds demonstrates to students how solutions to the loss of marine biodiversity can occasionally be ineffective or unsustainable when they overlook the significance of local stakeholders and communities or financial sustainability.

BlueSeeds partners from a variety of backgrounds, including NGOs, marine protected areas, and philanthropy, also participate in-person or virtually to offer contrasting perspectives on the areas where marine conservation is being applied.

BlueSeeds teaches the various facets of managing marine conservation projects effectively. The course alternates between group projects, including role-playing, and theory. Five student groups are given case studies of marine protected areas at the start of the week. These tangible examples teach them how to:

  • Plan activities and reduce costs of a marine protected area
  • Draw up a conservation project and raise funds
  • Identify funding gaps and develop self-financing mechanisms
  • Involve stakeholders through role-playing games
  • Promote innovation and entrepreneurship in an MPA
